Ssangyong

Ssangyong was basically a South Korean maker of Sport Utility vehicles, SUV which began in 1954. The first car was the Sibal, based on a modified US Army Jeep. The company was originally founded as the Hadonghwan Motor Company, becoming the Dong-A Motors in 1977 until taken over by the Ssangyong Business group in 1988. Apart from producing the Musso SUV in 1993 and the Korando, a  3 door 4x4 SUV in 1996. Several sedan passenger cars were built, such as the Chairman in 1997, a luxury saloon based on a Mercedes-Benz E class platform. Other vehicles based on Mercedes-Benz platforms and still produced are the Rexton, Kyron and the Rodius/Stavic.
