MG
MG was founded in 1924 as a British manufacturer of two seater sports cars until 1980. The company eventually manufactured saloons and coupe vehicles too. Rover revived the MG marque in 1982 with versions of Austin Rover’s Metro, Maestro and Montego ranges until 1991. However, the MG revival came in 1995 with the MG F brand. It was immediately popular as it was the first affordable two seater since the 1970s.
In 2000 BMW broke up the Rover Group and MG became half of MG Rover which unfortunately went bankrupt in 2005.
A Chinese company Nanjing Automobile acquired MG Rover and was itself bought by the Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) in 2007. Production of the large sports saloon the MG 7 began that year and was followed in 2008 with the smaller MG 3 and MG 5 hatchbacks.
